Sian Bird Head of Creative & Cultural Advocacy, Wellcome
Sian Bird is a cultural strategist and changemaker with more than 20 years’ experience leading transformation across policy, organisational development, and strategic programmes. She is passionate about harnessing creativity to drive systemic change, bringing together partners from commercial, cultural, and civic sectors to deliver shared ambitions.
As Head of Creative & Cultural Advocacy at Wellcome, Sian has established a new team to work with the cultural and entertainment sectors to shift public narratives, emotionally connect decision makers and inspire action on urgent global issues such as climate and mental health, in the UK and beyond. Her career has included senior roles at the City of London Corporation, Barbican, Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, where she shaped collaborative change programmes and cultural policy on placemaking, economic recovery following COVID, international cultural relations, local government improvement, cultural education, and public engagement.
Sian is a trained musician and has supported numerous music organisations through organisational development. She has acted as an independent consultant on partnership development, organisational development and coaching, working with clients such as Arts Council Wales, the RSA and National Orchestra of Wales.
