Nick Marchand Director, Global Engagement, Museums Victoria, former Head of International, V&A

Museums Victoria is Australia’s largest public museum organisation, responsible for the state's scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, exhibitions and events at Melbourne Museum, the Immigration Museum, Scienceworks and Royal Exhibition Building. As Director, Global Engagement, Nick takes the lead for Museums Victoria’s international engagement, working alongside the museum’s executive team to extend its reputation for partnership-building, research, exhibitions, education programmes and retail. Nick has a career history of artistic direction, business and programme development, arts commissions and production, as well as cultural, government and international relations.
Nick joined Museums Victoria from the V&A in London, where he was Head of International Programmes (2019-2024). Prior to this, Nick was Director, Arts – China and North-East Asia for the British Council / Counsellor (Arts and Culture) for the British Embassy in China. He was also Creative Director for the 2015 UK-China Year of Cultural Exchange. Other roles include the British Council’s Director in Australia, Artistic Director of Griffin Theatre Company and in-house producer for Wharf 2 Blueprints at Sydney Theatre Company. Nick was most recently Co-Chair of the International Council of Museums in the UK and a trustee of New Earth Theatre.
