Julia Peyton-Jones became Director of the Serpentine Gallery in 1991, where she is responsible for commissioning and showcasing the groundbreaking Exhibition, Education and Public Programmes as well as the annual architecture commission, the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. Under the patronage of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Serpentinecompleted a £4 million renovation in 1998. Since then visitor numbers have increased to between 800,000 and 1.2million in any one year.
