Amanda Sharp

Co-Director & Co-Founder, Frieze Art Fair

Amanda Sharp is a founder of Frieze, one of the world’s leading art organizations.Amanda co-founded frieze magazine with Matthew Slotover in 1991. frieze is considered Europe's leading contemporary art and culture publication and maintains an international readership with offices in London, New York and Berlin.

Following on from the success of frieze, Amanda and Matthew founded Frieze London in 2003, now regarded as one of the world’s best known and most influential art fairs. In 2013 the fair featured leading galleries from 30 countries, representing over 1,000 artists.

Frieze London is complimented by the critically acclaimed artistic programme, Frieze Projects. Taking place in bespoke temporary structure in Regent’s Park, Frieze London now achieves visitor numbers of over 60,000 per year.Frieze New York was launched in May 2012 as the first US-edition of the contemporary fair.  Frieze New York takes place on Randall’s Island Manhattan and the 2014 edition featured over 190 of the world’s leading galleries. Following the success of the New York edition, 2012 also saw the launch of Frieze Masters in London, which gives a contemporary perspective on historical art.  A short walking distance from the contemporary fair, the 2013 edition of Frieze Masters featured over 130 galleries showing art from ancient to modern.

In February 2011 Amanda and Matthew announced the launch of frieze d/e – a fully bilingual German/English quarterly, d/e stands for ‘Deutsch’ and ‘English.’ With editing and production based in Berlin, this magazine offers in-depth coverage of contemporary art and culture throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland.Amanda Sharp is a regular contributor to the international art world having spoken on various panels and given lectures at venues including Tate, The Walker Art Centre and Yale.  She has contributed to a number of magazines, newspaper and books including the Phaidon monograph on Doug Aitken.
