Astrid Jorgensen - Founder, Pub Choir - on developing the global lockdown phenomenon 'Couch Choir' and building a digital audience of millions from nothing

Astrid Jorgensen is on a mission to prove that everybody can sing (not always well, but literally). Her insatiable enthusiasm for music-making with strangers led her to found Pub Choir™ in 2017: a boozy, chaotic live show where audiences are transformed into a choir for one night only. Pub Choir’s pairing of community cohesion with philanthropy saw Astrid receive a nomination for 2020 Young Australian Of The Year. Undeterred in the wake of Covid-19’s overnight destruction of the Performing Arts industry, Astrid pioneered a new way of singing together virtually in March 2020 called ‘Couch Choir’. Lauded by the likes of Mariah Carey, BBC World News and Australian Story, Astrid’s musical ingenuity in both the physical and online world show what is possible when technology meets accessibility and passion.
