Ken Arnold (Denmark)

International Museum Leader including the Wellcome Collection (UK Museum of the Year) & Medical Museion (Copenhagen)

Professor Ken Arnold is an international leader in the museum sector with over 30 years of experience in directing and investigating museums. He now focuses on developing the role of the University of Copenhagen’s (UCPH) research museum, Medical Museion.

Professor Arnold aims to make Medical Museion a “platform for social engagement,” a place where patient-orientated research and engagement in stem cell topics for interest groups and targeted groups of the public takes place. This approach will be explored in reNEW’s other nodes – Leiden and Melbourne – where collaborations with cultural institutional partners within academia and beyond are planned.

Professor Arnold is part of reNEW’s PREPARE theme. He is director of Medical Museion, part of the leadership and a Program Coordinator at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) and also a professor in the Department of Public Health at the University of Copenhagen.

Prior to joining the academic work, Professor Arnold worked as head of cultural partnerships at the Wellcome Trust in London, where he directed co-produced international cultural programs and the creative vision for Wellcome Collection that opened in 2007 and won the Art Fund Museum of the Year Award. He holds a PhD in history from Princeton University, USA, and diploma in museum studies from Leicester University, UK.
