Monica Davidson Director & Doyenne, Creative Plus Business

Monica Davidson is an award-winning expert on the creative industries, who began her professional life as a freelance journalist, performer, and filmmaker. After years of freelancing and running her production company Twoshotmedia, Monica started sharing her entrepreneurial knowledge with others. She helped hundreds of creatives to develop their business skills over the years, and in 2013 Monica closed her production company and consolidated her experience with a Master’s degree in Screen Arts and Businessfrom AFTRS. Shortly after she was appointed as Australia’s first Creative Industries Business Advisor by the NSW Small Business Commissioner, where she was responsible for developing programs and providing business advice and training to professionals in the creative economy.
In 2016 Monica founded the social enterprise Creative Plus Business, an organisation dedicated to continuing and expanding the role of educating creative practitioners and arts professionals about small business skills, financial literacy, and marketing. C+B now has seven employees and 25 consultants delivering education and advisory program to the creative and screen sector across Australia. Monica continues her work as a creative industries expert, and is a renowned panellist, teacher and speaker. She was named as a Westpac/AFR ‘Woman of Influence’ for her work in the creative industries in 2014, and in 2019 Monica won the inaugural QUT Creative Enterprise Australia award for being a Creative Trailblazer, "who creates enterprises and opportunities and advocates, mentors, educates and advises within Australia’s creative economy."In 2020 Monica was a recipient of the prestigious AMP Tomorrow Fund to help develop more programs to assist creative start-ups. In addition to being the Doyenne of C+B, Monica continues her work as a filmmaker and writer, releasing her feature documentary Handbag on SBS Viceland and Amazon Prime in 2023. She also enjoys hanging out with her boisterous family, pink champagne, watching big dumb action movies, and indulging in the delicate art of pub karaoke.
