Box of Birds create live immersive mixed reality theatre experiences. Working at the forefront of multidisciplinary performance practice, Box of Birds integrate interactive technology and projection with storytelling and physical theatre. The work is rigorous, researched and poetic.
Box of Birds are performers, designers, digital artists, writers, composers, researchers, technicians, producers, and directors. Research is supported by an ongoing collaboration with the University of Technology Sydney.
Box of Birds was born out of Stalker Theatre, a long standing and award-winning physical theatre company based in Sydney, known for its quality productions from site-specific outdoor work to intimate and large-scale indoor works.
The company has presented live theatre works in over thirty counties globally, and at Australia’s major arts festivals & venues including Sydney Opera House, Arts Centre Melbourne, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Adelaide Festival, Sydney Festival, Carriageworks, and the National Maritime Museum.
Margie Breen
Margie Breen has had a diverse career in the arts spanning directing, producing, dramaturgy, community cultural development, performing, education and advocacy.
She has worked across the ‘ecosystem of performance making’ in Sydney with Belvoir Theatre, The Sydney Opera House, Sydney Theatre Company, NIDA, Milk Crate Theatre, Performance Space, Critical Path, Shopfront Arts Collective, Erth Visual and Physical Inc, Urban Theatre Projects, PYT Fairfield, and for over twenty years has been an associated artist with Stalker Theatre.
With a passion for growing arts participation and strengthening communities she has facilitated creative processes in schools, Juvenile Justice Centres, youth theatres, in remote indigenous communities and with people who have experienced homelessness and disadvantage. She was the first Creative Producer for a regional arts development program, Local Stages in Bathurst, NSW. She was Director of Theatre Network NSW, advocating for and connecting performance makers across the State, with a focus on regional artists and organisations. She has directed performances and created and facilitated programs in the Central desert and in the Pilbara, Western Australia (for the Perth Festival), and across regional NSW.
