Karl Schlothauer is reshaping Sydney's nightlife. He pioneered small bars like Pocket, Stich, and Button Bar via House of Pocket. He founded The Independent Bars Association of NSW in 2018 against damaging lockout laws.

In 2020, he co-founded YCK Laneways in response to the pandemic to help attract people back into the city. Notable: Sydney’s Open for Lunch, featuring a Ferris Wheel on George Street. YCK Laneways earned the inaugural Purple Flag. Karl advises Investment NSW's 24-Hour Economy Advisory Group and City of Sydney's Economic Recovery Panel.
