Dr Liming Zhu

Director, CSIRO's Data61, the digital and AI division of Australia's national science agency

Dr Liming Zhu leads CSIRO’s Data61, the digital and AI division of Australia’s national science agency, and is a conjoint professor at UNSW. A recognised leader in AI engineering and responsible AI, he represents Australia in the International AI Safety Science Report and contributes to OECD.AI on Risks and Accountability, ISO AI standards, and Australia’s AI Safety Standards and guidance.

His research leadership spans AI engineering, responsible and safe AI, digital trust, software systems, cybersecurity, and quantum software. He has authored more than 400 publications and delivered keynotes at major international venues, including “Software Engineering as the Linchpin of Responsible AI” at ICSE. His books, Responsible AI: Best Practices for Creating Trustworthy AI Systems and Engineering AI Systems: Architecture and DevOps Essentials, reflect his vision for rigorous, safe and societally beneficial AI systems.
