Debika Ray - Editor, Crafts magazine

I am a writer, editor and consultant specialising in arts, culture, cities and society, with a keen interest in the Global South and diasporic communities. I have more than 15 years of experience at some of the world’s leading newspapers, magazines and websites – ranging from the Guardian, the Financial Times, The Independent and Al Jazeera, to Wallpaper, Kinfolk, Elle Decoration and Architectural Digest. At the moment, I’m the editor of Crafts and head of editorial at the UK Crafts Council. I was previously senior editor at Icon and deputy editor at Disegno. In 2017, I founded Clove, a magazine about the culture of South Asia and the region’s international diaspora, and the associated creative agency Clove Press. I have advised major businesses, architecture practices, engineering firms, universities, charities, think tanks and other institutions on their editorial, communications and events strategies.
