The Own Art scheme, created by Arts Council England, allows any UK taxpayer to apply for a loan when purchasing art up to £2,000. The success of the initiative offline led to ACE and Creative Scotland commissioning REMIX Agency to take the scheme online as a pilot for 80 partner galleries.
REMIX Agency created an aggregated system offering individual, customised stores for each of the partner galleries as well as a centralised marketplace. Galleries were able to manage their own products, categories, shipping and merchandising. We also developed interactive terminals for use in galleries to simplify the physical experience.
Aggregating technical solutions creates excellent economies of scale for public funders – technology can be created and optimised from the centre, and ongoing improvements can be applied across all partners at once. This keeps costs much lower than if each organisation commissioned individually, whilst keeping the tech more current.
