REMIX explores the intersection between culture,
technology and entrepreneurship.

Join us at a special REMIX Academy event on the Sunshine Coast exploring the key ingredients that contribute to successful creative cities and communities.
Hear from Andrew Kalish, Director of Cultural Development at Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. Recently named one of the 100 most influential people in Brooklyn culture, Andrew is a key figure in the development of the renowned Brooklyn Cultural District. Brooklyn is one of the world’s leading urban creative hubs and he will analyse the reasons for its success.
The event also features Hannah Barry, one of the UK’s leading creative innovators behind the incredible Bold Tendencies. Few projects have been as transformational as Bold Tendencies where disused multi-storey car park in Peckham was converted into a cutting-edge contemporary art gallery and dynamic urban social space responsible for establishing the area as one of London's leading creative locations.
“A new generation of artists have turned an unlikely corner of southeast London into the capital's cultural epicentre.”  - Vogue
“There are few initiatives taking place anywhere in the UK that match the verve with which the Bold Tendencies Team have taken advantage of the opportunity offered by Southwark for the imaginative use of derelict space” - Sir Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate
Our REMIX Academy events form part of the REMIX Summits series of global events exploring the intersection of culture, technology and entrepreneurship, which bring together thought-leaders from across different industries to tackle the big ideas shaping the future of the cultural and creative industries and the development of creative cities and the creative economy. REMIX Summits are made possible by partners including with The Guardian, Google and Bloomberg and take place in London, Sydney, New York, Los Angeles, Dubai and Sydney at venues including MoMA and the British Museum.

Join us at our second special REMIX Academy event on the Sunshine Coast exploring the key ingredients that contribute to successful creative cities and communities.

How can the arts influence and shape urban development projects? How do we think about holistic place-making when thinking about the infrastructure of cities? Is the growth of a creative city largely organic or can we engineer it through tools such as policy and investment? How do we balance top down with community empowerment and grass roots cultural activity? How do we move beyond the cookie-cutter approach where cities simply seek to replicate the 'Silicon Valley model' towards building a more complex creative ecology with arts and culture embedded at their core; a formula which is driving the growth of both the creative industries more broadly as well as the tech sectors of cities such as Berlin, London and New York?

If edgy experiences are your scene, challenge your perceptions and step outside the norm at Horizon Underground. On the fringe of Horizon sits Horizon Underground, featuring a program of unconventional and experimental works and emerging artists in Nambour.

Make the most of the final day of Horizon 2017 and experience Dawn Awakening, the signature festival finale. A moving dawn ceremony and tribute that depicts the stories of the First Peoples and their spiritual ancestors told through music, song, dance and spoken word, held at Stumers Creek Coolum Beach, a traditional meeting place for Aboriginal ancestors.

VISIT SUNSHINE COAST

The Sunshine Coast is a region rich in diversity, and that is what makes it so special. Enviably positioned, the region is tucked between Brisbane and Fraser Island - a natural haven waiting to be explored.

From the majestic Glass House Mountains surrounded by the quiet beauty of hinterland to a coastal stretch of over 100 kilometres of pristine sandy beaches.  Wonders of nature, beachside culture, fresh local food, immersive encounters and world-class events are in abundance.

However, the most distinctive thing about the Sunshine Coast is the people. It is a place where you will feel like a local from the moment you arrive. From sun-kissed surfers to bohemian artists, there is no shortage of friendly people with easy smiles. It’s no surprise they’re happy, as the region enjoys a subtropical climate with plenty of warmth – in fact an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. This guarantees a big sunny welcome!
