Co-Founder, CultureLabel.com & REMIX Summits

Cultural entrepreneur who co-founded and in 2014 sold CultureLabel.com, a VC-funded ecommerce marketplace where creative minds find inspiration and shop the greatest art and artist-designed gifts, homeware and accessories from over 800 iconic cultural institutions, galleries, artists and boutiques. 

Also co-founded the global REMIX Summits (http://www.remixsummits.com) on Culture, Technology and Entrepreneurship. Produced in partnership with partners Google, Bloomberg and Mindshare, REMIX tackles the big ideas shaping the future of the culture and creative industries and is attended by thousands of creative leaders worldwide. Summits take place annually in London, NYC, Sydney and Dubai with media partners including VICE, The Guardian and Time Out. 2017 also saw the launch of our Creative State Summit in Melbourne, produced by REMIX Summits for Creative Victoria (http://creativestatesummit.com). 

Through REMIX Agency (http://www.remixsummits.com/agency), Simon consults for private clients on commercial and digital strategies for cultural and creative organisations - reference cases include the Houses of Parliament, BFI, Bestival, The School of Life and London Evening Standard. 

In partnership with the British Council and Arts Council England, Simon led on the launch of REMIX Academy, a new approach to arts training. Through a combination of workshops, a year-round community and online modules, it provides arts leaders with insights, tools and exercises to support their entrepreneurial development and help build financially resilient organisations. REMIX has developed two strands of learning: one for creative entrepreneurs starting or growing a new business, and one for leaders within creative and cultural organisations looking to inspire entrepreneurial change from within. REMIX Academy events have so far been held in locations including London, Manchester, Newcastle, Melbourne, Sunshine Coast and Perth.

Between 2014 and 2017, Simon supported creative start-ups from across Europe as part of a major European Union project, E-Space (http://www.europeana-space.eu/). The aim of this was to create new opportunities for employment and economic growth within the creative industries based on the development of applications and services from Europe’s digital cultural content. REMIX managed the monetisation and business modelling outcomes, including intensive mentoring and incubation support.

In 2014, 'Golf, Art & Spa Days' emerged out of the observation that incredible experiences are the bread and butter of the arts sector. Yet when it comes to marketing unique experiences for gift buyers, the arts are strangely absent from popular gift experience sites. Why? And can this change? To test this, we received support from Nesta, the Arts & Humanities Research Council and public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England to spend a year working with six leading arts organisations (Dulwich Picture Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts, Design Museum, English National Opera and Barbican), exploring the market for cultural gift experiences.
